THE Pipers Area Residents Association is preparing for its fifth clean up in the Old Town area.

On October 5, a group of residents will gather outside the Tony Knowles Interiors office in Devizes Road at 2pm to carry out a two-hour clean-up.

Activities will include picking up litter, tidying up the flowers and making the area and environment pleasant.

Colin Doubleday, who helps to organise the event, said: “It’s become a bit of a tradition over the last couple of years that we do a clean up twice a year in the autumn and the spring.

“We feel it’s an opportunity for all of us to take ownership and clean up some of the areas in Old Town which are perhaps a bit neglected by the council and the people that are responsible for keeping them tidy.

“It’s always hard work but it’s good fun and a good opportunity to meet your neighbours and show that you care about the environment where you live.

“I think it does create a sense of pride in where you live, and the more proud you are the more you care about what the area is like and the more you want to get involved with a clean up.

“I also really think it means visitors to the area have more respect for the area if it looks nice.”
