The Macmillan mobile service, giving free cancer information and support, is stopping off in Chippenham today, October 1.

A team of information and support specialists will be on board to offer free and confidential advice, at the Buttercross on Market Place from 10am to 4pm.

According to Macmillan, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with 138 people receiving a diagnosis every day.

Mary Brown, an information and support specialist on the unit, said: “It’s so important to be aware of the symptoms of breast cancer, as with all types of cancer, the earlier it is detected and the sooner it is treated the better the outcome is likely to be.

“Men can also be affected by breast cancer so, although it is quite rare, it is also important they are aware of what to watch out for.

“The mobile team are here to help with any questions you may have about any type of cancer. Whether it’s about you, a relative or friend, come on board the bus and talk to us or call Macmillan. We can also help signpost you to local services who will be able to provide you with ongoing support.”

The most common symptoms of breast cancer include a lump but also a change in the size or shape of the breast, dimpling of the skin or thickening in the breast tissue, inverted nipple, an excema-like rash on the nipple, discharge from the nipple or swelling or a lump in the armpit.

Last year Macmillan’s five mobile information units helped an average of 60,000 people in over 500 locations across the UK.

Everyone is welcome. Anyone unable to visit can call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00.
