More than 160 children ran a mile in Noremarsh Junior School’s fun run to raise funds for an outdoor classroom and pupils’ cookery equipment.

Vicky Lawrence of Wootton Bassett School of Dance led warm-up sessions prior to the start. The course, which included the school sports field and Old Court Park, was planned, marshalled and paced by members of the Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds Running Club.

Despite a threat of rain, the afternoon stayed fine and every finisher received a commemorative medal. There were awards to the first three in each race, which was organised in school years.

Mayor Sue Hughes presented awards, which included printed T-shirts, water bottles and chocolate. A parents’ race provided an exciting finale in which children yelled encouragement to the adults. The first men to finish were 1 Simon Green, 2 Andrew Jack, 3 Steve Lynch. Winners in the women’s race were 1 Tiffany Hughes, 2 Jo Hartland and 3 Sengul McGeachie.

Head teacher Mr Andy Simpson thanked everyone who contributed to the day.
