DISABLED children have been given a chance to show their skills on the football pitch.

Over the past six weeks the Swindon Town Football in the Community trust have been delivering structured coaching sessions in some of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools around the county.

Each of the schools have been given the opportunity in participating in the weekly sessions in preparation for the 2014 SEN and Physical Disabilities festival.

The event, which was delivered last week, was attended by nearly 100 youngsters with severe learning and physical disabilities participated.

The morning session involved the children practising football related skills whilst enjoying a practical shooting session which gave the children the opportunity of scoring goals.

In the afternoon, the teams were pitched with each other dependant on their level of playing ability and everyone who took part engaged fully in the matches.

All the participants were given an STFC goody bag along with a memento medal which was presented by former Town chairman Mike Spearman who is the Honorary Patron of the STFC Community Trust.

Clive Maguire Trust Manager said: “It again was a fantastic occasion and it is always inspirational when we see these children engaging in the activities which we deliver.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Wiltshire Council and Rob Paget.”

The scheme, which is now in takes 12th year, involved eight schools from across the county and Maguire was delighted with how the day went.

“It is always a lovely day and all the teachers got involved too,” he added.

“It is something that we always look forward to putting on.”
