A CANNABIS factory in a Gorse Hill shed was uncovered by officers in a raid yesterday afternoon.

At about noon six officers from the neighbourhood policing team acted on intelligence and attended a house on Edinburgh Street, where they discovered an outbuilding packed with plants ready to be harvested.

PC Stacey McGarry, community beat manager for Gorse Hill, said the occupant was not at home when they entered the property.

“The factory was found in Edinburgh Street in Gorse Hill after we received intelligence that there may have been drugs in an outbuilding within the address,” she said.

“Six officers have attended the address and secured the property, and waited for Scottish and Southern Electric to come before we could gain full access.

“Upon entry we discovered a number of cannabis plants which were ready to be harvested, so we have definitely caught this operation at the right time. We will now seize all the plants and ensure that the equipment is removed from the address, which is the usual hydroponics, running electricity from the house to the outbuilding.

“The occupant is known to police and will be dealt with.”

PC McGarry added that the discovery came after a tip-off from a resident and she reminded people to contact the team with suspicions or concerns.

“A lot of our intelligence recently has been coming through Crimestoppers, and it is in large part thanks to the community that we have been able to act on that intelligence, not only in this case but with a number of recent incidents we have been dealing with,” she said.

“I would urge anyone with any suspicions in the area to either notify myself, the neighbourhood policing team, or contact Crimestoppers and leave the information anonymously.”

Anyone with information forcan contact police directly on non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
