YOGA’s power to bring healing will aptly be put to use in support of thousands of terminally-ill patients in Swindon.

Inspired by reporter Liz Mackley, who one day waltzed into her class determined to lose enough weight to do a skydive for the 160 Appeal, Forrest Yoga teacher Charlie Speller will now do her bit for Prospect Hospice, offering taster sessions next month.

The three 30-minute workshops will be held on Saturday, December 13 at the De Vere Village’s Velocity Health and Fitness at 9.30am, 10.15am and 11am.

“I decided to do this event for a few reasons,” said the 35-year-old from Old Town.

“The work that Prospect Hospice does helps to bring healing to the hearts of those reaching the end of their life, and their families.

“That is something to be respected and supported “I got involved specifically with the Advertiser's £160,000 fundraising campaign for Prospect Hospice when reporter Liz Mackley stepped into my hot yoga class as part of her skydive preparation.

“I was totally inspired by Liz's enthusiasm and really wanted to do something to support the initiative.

“We can all make a difference in our communities and a charity yoga event for Prospect Hospice is a way that I can use my skills to give something back.

“I would love to raise at least £350. That means 70 bums on mats on December 13.”

Each class will be different, but they will all consist of a warm-up, which includes Forrest Yoga’s abdominal strengtheners and a hot section to allow participants to build strength and flexibility. The sessions will culminate in a slightly challenging but rewarding pose followed by a warm down.

“People can choose to do one session or to do all three,” she added. “It’s an introduction to hot Forrest Yoga for a good cause – Prospect Hospice and people’s personal wellness. That’s a win-win situation.

“Each session will be different. They’ll all be sweaty, fun and challenging in different ways.

“A minimum donation of £5 is per session – I won’t be stopping anyone who’d like to donate more though.”

Liz Mackley said: "Charlie is an extraordinary yoga teacher and bodyworker. You'll be in great hands.”
