JOHN Fisher hopes to avoid a fellow Hellenic League outfit in tomorrow's FA Vase third round draw as Highworth Town break new ground in the competition.

Saturday’s 3-0 win over Toolstation League Bridport took the Worthians further than they have ever been in the national tournament, earning a £1,200 prize money boost for The Elms club in the process.

The last 64 beckons for Fisher’s men as they await the draw tomorrow lunchtime, but the manager would rather avoid any familiar faces for their next test.

Flackwell Heath and Ascot United of the Hellenic League also progresses, while Abingdon United could, following a replay, but Fisher said: “I just hope we don’t get a Hellenic team in the next round.

“You want to play different teams in the cup competitions and this is the furthest we’ve ever been in the competition. We wouldn’t want to play any team we come up against in our league.’’ Town progressed on Saturday as three second-half goals decided their tie against the Dorset visitors.

Callum Parsons went close for the home side in the opening period, firing goalwards after a cross from TJ Bohane, only for Bridport’s Jamie Filkins to divert the ball on to a post and clear.

Bohane also had an opportunity when he headed a Ryan King cross wide but the breakthrough arrived just before the midway point of the second period as Chris Jackson crossed and Bohane headed home.

Bridport were not done as James Symes headed a cross on to the bar and substitute Tom Richardson rattled a post from long range.

Richardson went close again as Gary Stevens pushed his drive on to the bar but Highworth settled matters with two late goals.

Brad Clark doubled the lead with a superb effort from 25 yards before Bohane’s ball found Parsons at the far post and he fired home the third.

Fisher added: “We’re pleased. We played well and were the better team.

“We’re not picking up many injuries at the moment which is really good. You look at the likes of Swindon Supermarine, who keep having six or seven men injured and when that happens, your season is a bit of a non-starter.’’
