CAMPAIGNERS raising awareness of the effects of domestic abuse tied a white ribbon around a tree outside the Civic Offices.

Yesterday marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

As part of the day, representatives from the Swindon Community Safety Partnership and Swindon Women’s Aid were out in force raising awareness of the campaign during Domestic Abuse Awareness Week.

The were also offering white ribbons as part of the white ribbon campaign, which is led by men campaigning for the end of violence against women.

Lin Williams, domestic violence reduction co-ordinator with Swindon Community Safety Partnership, said: “It was to commemorate the international day as part of a number of events we’re doing to mark Domestic Abuse Awareness Week.

“It went really, really well. We also held another smaller event at the police station in Shrivenham Road and we’re holding a few others in the town this week.”
