OARE and Wilcot have been announced as two of the communities that will benefit from 3G coverage under Vodafone’s Open Sure Signal 100 programme.

The villages are two of 100 hotspot locations that will benefit from the scheme. Vodafone is now working with residents on the community-led initiative and the service is due to go live next year.

The programme uses innovative technology to provide mobile access in locations where it isn’t possible for networks to provide coverage via traditional means.

Jeroen Hoencamp, chief executive of Vodafone UK, said: “I’m delighted Oare and Wilcot have been named as two of our 100 ROSS communities and I’m excited about the transformation this pioneering programme should bring to the community.

“The communities who have worked with us to introduce Open Sure Signal have all told us how life has improved markedly, from the ability to make an appointment at the local doctor to telling their families they are running late for lunch.”
