Strictly fever hit Melksham Oak School as it hosted a fundraising event for a new wall mirror for the dance studio.

More than 50 students took part in the Strictly Come Dancing night, which raised £587, while several staff members showed off their moves while dancing to a medley of James Bond songs in a dance-off.

In TV style, the event had students acting as judges, who marked the staff dancers and eventually crowned Matt Hill and Karen Bowen as their winners.

Aidan Blowers, the assistant headteacher at Melksham Oak Community School, won the event last year and praised the work of both staff and students during this year’s competition.

He said: “There was actual dance quality this year and some students even showed their BTEC work.”

“I won last year and I was quite impressed by the finalists’ moves. But I didn’t win this year, so I’m sure there was some dubious dancing going on.”

Mr Blowers added: “I am just really proud of what we are doing at the school at the moment. This is a really busy time of year for both staff and students and I think events like these show how we are a community school.”
