SOME of the best entrants from Devizes Junior Eisteddfod will be performing again on Saturday at two festival concerts.

For the first time this year the event’s most prestigious awards were not presented at the Eisteddfod weekend.

Instead they will be handed over on Saturday when a junior festival is held at the assembly rooms at the Town Hall at 3pm and the senior concert at 7pm.

Eisteddfod director Michael Johnson was pleased with level of ability and enthusiasm shown by the youngsters from schools across the county who competed last weekend.

He said: “I was delighted so many of the new initiatives this year paid off.”

He is hopeful the festival concerts will also be well attended and add a new level of interest in the event.

Among those showcasing their talent on Saturday will be Beatrice Watts, 11, from St Margaret’s Preparatory School, who won the William Dauntesey Cup for the best young performer at the Eisteddfod.

She will perform both a mime and a solo vocal at the senior concert.

Joel Munday, 14, from Devon, who won the Giles Chivers Cup for the best senior performance, will do a string repertoire solo.

Among those performing at the junior concert will be the choral speaking group from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Devizes.

Entry to both events is free but a collection will be taken towards Eisteddfod funds.
