Community messaging, the police scheme which helps the public fight crime, will launch in six more areas this week, expanding the successful scheme in Wiltshire.

Residents in Westbury, Bradford on Avon, Mere, Tisbury and Swindon South and East will be able to get free messages by text, email or voicemail – about police and crime in their area.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT), supported by Neighbourhood Watch, have been holding events to talk to people and sign them up to the scheme this week.

Once people have signed they can get messages about policing news and events, appeals for information and crime prevention advice.

They can also reply to messages, feed back information to their local officers to help policing their local area. It will not be monitored 24 hours a day and people should still call 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non-emergency. Go to www.wilts messaging.co.uk
