ANOTHER facet of Swindon Town’s 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United was the second appearance this season of the infamous purple third kit.

With the Blades home strip encompassing both main colours used in Town’s home and away shirts, the kit man had to dig out the controversial shirt only previously worn this season in the 5-0 defeat at Cheltenham Town in the FA Cup.

After the latest defeat in purple Town boss Mark Cooper joked that he would be disposing of the shirts on the drive back from Yorkshire.

With Town needing the kit once more this season, away at Doncaster Rovers, Cooper added that his players would have to find an alternative, though it might not be one that is good for their long-term health.

“We’re going to throw it out of the sun roof on the way home,” the Town boss told the media.

“We’ll play in skins (at Doncaster). We’ll ask if we can play in skins on a Tuesday night in Yorkshire.”

Though Cooper did qualify those remarks, dismissing the notion that the purple strip is in any way bad luck.

“Of course players don’t actually think it’s bad luck. We’re not using the kit as an excuse.”
