A new walking app was laun-ched at the Wiltshire Museum on Tuesday which gives users a free interactive tour of the Wiltshire White Horses.

The app provides a brief history and natural soundtrack, bringing the nine white horses on the North Wessex Downs to life.

Using the app, the nine horses in Alton Barnes, Broad Town, Cherhill, Devizes, Hackpen, Marlborough, Pewsey, Westbury and Uffington can be seen on six different walks, covering 100 miles.

Co-founder Richard White said: “This was a fantastic project discovering and celebrating the White Horses on the North Wessex Downs using digital arts and traditional analogue methods.”

Mr White and artist Ali Pretty created the app in 2013 for the museum and during the launch demonstrated the app while explaining more about the project.

To complete the project the pair worked with Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts, were funded by Arts Council England and supported by Wiltshire College, Wiltshire Council and Bath Spa University.

Museum director David Dawson also gave a short talk on Eric Ravilious, who painted a series of pictures of the horses along with allowing guests to view an original sketchbook.

The app is available for free from the App Store and Google Play.
