TROWBRIDGE firefighters were called to a mum locked out of her home on a balcony by her toddler on Wednesday morning in Studley Green.

The stranded mother, who lives on the first floor of flats in Kingswood Chase, had been putting her washing out on the washing line on her balcony when she was locked out.

Despite pleading with her 17-month-old boy to let her back in, she was forced to call firefighters around 9.37am so she could get back in to the property.

Firefighters were able to climb through an open bathroom window to get back into the flat and open the door for the woman, who was concerned about her child being on his own.

Trowbridge watch manager Guy Tadman said: "We were called around 9.37am to a block of flats in the Studley Green area of Trowbridge.

"The mother had gone out to put her washing out and her toddler locked the door behind her. We had to gain entry and luckily she had left her bathroom window open, so we were able to get in an open the balcony door.

"It is quite common for us to get called out to people being locked out of their home. She couldn't convince him to let her back in, which is when she called us.

"She was upset at start with, as it is never nice to be away from your children, but she was relieved when we let her back in and I think she saw the funny side."
