BRADFORD Town manager Paul Shanley has called on his side to show a vast improvement despite a 2-1 victory over Winterbourne United last night.

The Trowbridge Road boss feels that his side have lacked commitment and effort over their last two outings – Bradford lost 2-1 at Bitton on Saturday – and that is something that he cannot accept.

“All I ask of my players is to go out there and put in a committed performance and that has been missing this last week,” Shanley said.

“We were poor on Saturday and we got beat, we were poor last night and got away with it.

“I don’t know why we are having this poor run at the moment but it needs to stop because it is not acceptable.”

Bradford, who reached fifth round of the FA Vase and are in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final, moved up to fifth in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division following last night’s win.

Shanley’s men took the lead in the opening 10 minutes following an own goal and they lead until early in the second half when Winterbourne struck from a free-kick.

But Bradford claimed success with a fine move that saw Twaine Plummer head home a Sammy Jordan cross.

“That was probably the best thing we did all night,” Shanley said. “It is not as if we don’t have anything to play for.

“We have got a county cup final to come, we have got another cup game coming up and now we are fifth in the league.

“We need a vast improvement on Saturday when we play Street.”

But Shanley will be forced into making several changes for that game with Jack Hopper out ill, Josh Bringham suspended, Jacob Cox rated as 50-50, Martin Johnson away at a wedding and Plummer doubtful with a hamstring injury.

“We are down to the bare bones,” Shanley said.

“But sometimes when you’re struggling for numbers that can bring everyone together and get a result.

“Hopefully we can do that on Saturday.”
