SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb says that he won’t rush Kyle Lapham back into action after he returned to light training last week.

With an entire back four missing through injury, Cameron Pirie joined skipper Dave Bampton, Aaron Oakley and Mark Flanagan in the treatment room on Tuesday night with a foot injury, Lapham has now begun running following his long term injury.

But as the South Marston side prepare to travel to Larkhall Athletic tomorrow, Webb is not prepared to take any risks.

“It is great to see Kyle involved in training, he is not with the main group, but he is back running,” Webb said.

“I won’t rush him though, it is important that he doesn’t return until he is 100 per cent.

“The same with Dave Bampton, he has been out since October, he is the captain and such a big player for us.

“I don’t know when he will be back training, all I know is that the back four that I envisaged playing week in week out has played together once this season.”

On top of Marine’s defensive worries, Webb is also without the unavailable midfielder Harry Etheridge, who will also miss next Saturday’s visit of AFC Totton following his sending off in the 3-1 defeat to Merthyr Town on Tuesday night, and Ryan Stanners, who is away.

“I’ll be lucky to get 14 players out this weekend, but I have got Scott Bevan back so that is a bonus,” the Marine chief added.

With his defensive numbers depleted, Webb says that he is likely to dip into the loan market.

Having explored a possibility of a link up with a League Two side, the Marine manager says that he is likely to contact Town boss Mark Cooper about the possibility of loaning someone.

“Mark’s first focus is getting Swindon back to winnings ways on Saturday, and that is where his efforts are lying,” Webb said.

“But after the weekend I’ll be speaking to him to see if there is a first or second year lad they want to get some games.

“I did look at a link up with a League Two club through a contact of mine but after considering everything it probably wasn’t viable.

“There is also Dave Hockaday at Coventry who I could speak with, but again the travelling wouldn’t be great.”
