ADVER SPORT'S COMPLETE GUIDE TO TOWN'S NEXT OPPONENT: NOTTS COUNTY.
The Chalkboard
SHAUN Derry’s physical forwards Jimmy Spencer and Bálint Bajner have been injured and innefectual respectively and as a result the Magpies have taken a more pragmatic approach to their playing style.
At the sharp end of a 4-3-3 formation look for loanee Paddy McCourt to provide invention from wide left, freeing up pacey pair Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Garry Thompson to try and make runs in behind Town’s back line.
Gary Jones brings steel to the County midfield and will try and link play from the back through full-backs Hayden Mullins and Blair Adams.
Likely Line-Up
A Man In Form: Roy Carroll
Jonathan Obika evades Roy Carroll at Meadow
Lane in the reverse fixture
WHEN former Manchester United stopper Roy Carroll is not getting himself in trouble with his mouth he is usually making great saves.
Given County’s league position it is no suprise the Northern Ireland international has been kept busy this season and without him the Meadow Lane club could be worse off.
Carroll has Champions League experience and it shows. He commmands his box with authority and makes saves he has not right to.
Despite his experience it would be no great shock to see Carroll being booked on Saturday. He has seven cautions already this season, mostly for dissent and admits he is too old to watch his tongue.
Treatment Room
THE BIG injury news this week was former Town loanee Ronan Murray succumbing to a fractured pubic bone, thus ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
With fellow striker Jimmy Stewart also crocked with a cruciate injury, picked up in the first game of pre-season, it means the Magpies are light on strikers, hence Garry Thompson’s elevation into the central attacking role.
Murray’s injury is a crucial one, the Irishman was expected to play a big part this season after finishing 2013/14 strongly, but due to persistant injury issues Murray been restricted, scoring just twice.
The other player missing for County is Mustapha Dumbuya.
