A GROUP of veteran rockers have handed over thousands of pounds to Wiltshire Air Ambulance at a visit to the charity’s base in Devizes.

Rockers Reunited, who have an average age of 71, presented a cheque for £4,700 to the band’s chosen charity for 2014.

During the late fifties and early sixties, the group dominated Swindon’s rock ’n’ roll scene as members of The Strykneens, The Sonics, Vince & The Vigilantes, The Satellites, The Sapphires, Clive and The Cyclones, The Strangers, Power Four and The Off-beats.

Throughout the year, Rockers Reunited played gigs at pubs and clubs but their big fundraiser was at the Grange Leisure Centre in Swindon which raised £4,300.

Band member Keith Hart said: “It feels absolutely great. We are a rock ’n’ roll group and we put on these shows to support charities.

“We’ve raised money for several good causes over the last few years and it was great to help Wiltshire Air Ambulance last year.

“It’s a very worthwhile cause we didn’t realise they were splitting apart from the police helicopter and that they now need £2.5million a year, that’s a real lump of money."

The band met with air ambulance paramedics on their visit who told them more about what they do on a day-to-day basis.

Rockers Reunited’s band members are currently discussing which charity to raise money for this year.
