SWINDON Town fans have the chance to pit their wits against their idols and raise money for charity NSPCC.

The Beat the Players Quiz Night will see a group of six first teamers taking on 19 other teams. The fundraiser will take place in the sponsors’ suite at the County Ground from 6.30pm on Thursday, April 16.

Former Town favourite Phil King will be quiz master at the event, being held to bring the curtain down on a relationship that has seen the NSPCC act as the football club’s charitable partner.

Philippa Sundquist, from the NSPCC, said: “We did it last year which raised over £1,000 and we would love to beat that this year. We have enough room to accommodate 19 teams with the 20th coming from Swindon Town.

“Not only will meeting them be a big attraction for fans but the chance to beat them will also be an interesting factor. This will be a lovely way to end the relationship with the club.”

There should be a great atmosphere at the quiz with teams able to have up to six members.

The winning team will receive a top prize while there will also be a raffle running on the evening.

Philippa said: “We expect it to be a really fun night with some absolutely fantastic raffle prizes. Some of these include wine, toiletries and meals. We’d also be happy to receive anymore donations from businesses and the public. We really appreciate all the support that we receive.”

The NSPCC is the country’s leading children’s charity. They help young people, who have suffered abuse, to rebuild their lives and work to prevent them suffering harm in the future.

Philippa said: “The money from events, like the quiz, go to supporting local children and I think it is really important to remind the public that the NSPCC’s work benefits their community.”

During the charity’s two-year partnership with Town thousands of pounds has been raised through events and matchday bucket collections.

It costs £60 to enter a team in the quiz with all entrants getting a meal courtesy of Phillips Chip Shop.
