SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb says he is more than aware of what Fleet Town are capable of ahead of their showdown against the Southern League Division One South & West strugglers on Saturday.

Fleet are third from bottom in the table having won just four times in the league this term, and have also picked up just two points since Christmas.

However, the Calthorpe Park outfit ended an 11-match winless run with a 4-2 success away at Alresford Town to reach the Aldershot Senior Cup final on Tuesday.

Webb says his team cannot afford to take Fleet lightly at the Webb’s Wood Stadium this weekend and cited the 2-1 loss at home to the same opposition in the FA Trophy back in October as a reason to be wary.

“We have played them in the league away and won and played them in the FA Trophy at home and lost,” said Webb. “They showed that day that they are more than capable of catching teams on the counter.

“It was a game which we probably should have won as we dominated possession but were made to pay for not taking our chances by conceding two late goals.”

Marine suffered an agonising last-gasp 4-3 defeat at Bridgwater Town last time out and Webb is now targeting a strong response in the final six games of the season to improve on their current position of 14th in the table.

Webb said: “All we ask from the lads for the last six games is that they try their best and give 100 per cent.

“We are not where we want to be and it’s been hard for the players and for me. It’s my job to make sure we improve and we are in a better position come pre-season.”

Bradley Gray misses the match with injury but Webb has rated both Luke Hopper and Joe Shepherd as 50-50 to return.

Connor Waldon will play his final Marine match before the end of his three-month loan from Swindon Town and Webb also said that he is likely to give several members of the youthful New College squad a run-out before the end of the season.
