POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a 49-year-old motocross rider from the Swindon area was airlifted to hospital on Monday after an accident in Yatesbury.

The incident is believed to have happened at about 3.30pm on Easter Monday on a byway between the A4 at Yatesbury and the A361 near the White Horse Plantation.

The male rider is believed to have lost control of the orange KTM 200 EXC motorcycle he was riding on a slight incline.

He suffered several fractures to his neck as a result and was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Sergeant Steven Love, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “We believe there were approximately ten motocross riders in the area at the time of this incident, and we would like to hear from them, if we have not already, so we can piece together exactly how the rider suffered such serious injuries.

“The rider remains in hospital at this stage where his condition is described as stable, although the injuries sustained will be life changing.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have any information, should call police on 101.
