DESSERT parlour Kaspa’s is enjoying the sweet taste of success again after improving on a poor hygiene rating.

In January the Clarence Street eatery scored a one out of five rating following an inspection by Swindon Borough Council. The findings shocked customers, as Kaspa’s has proved to be popular in the town since opening last November.

After making improvements, the business has improved to a level four rating. This was awarded after a follow-up inspection which took place on April 9.

Franchisee Rafi Zaidi has insisted Kaspa’s previous problems related to paperwork issues instead of their food and hygiene quality.

The parlour’s management were informed of their improved rating on Friday.

Rafi said: “It was very satisfying to improve the rating.

“This has come as a huge relief because over the last two months we’ve had customers coming in and asking when we’ll be inspected again.

“The issues we had were not to do with hygiene but this was about paperwork.

“We are pleased with the four rating but disappointed as we thought we’d done enough to get five. We will ensure that next time we are inspected we get a five.”

Kaspa’s made changes to their working practices following their initial inspection.

“A lot of it has been about crossing the Ts and dotting the Is,” Rafi said.

“I have emailed asking for feedback on us only getting four this time. My understanding is that the inspectors need to have confidence in our paperwork system working consistently.”

Kaspa’s has enjoyed a lot of custom since the opening of the Regent Circus leisure park and Rafi said January’s poor rating didn’t hugely damage trade.

“We’ve been receiving about 10 phone calls a week and emails asking for updates,” Rafi said.

“We want to thank everyone who has been supporting us and giving us lots of positive feedback – it is greatly appreciated.”
