The cream of the Conservative crop have all now made an appearance in Wiltshire as George Osborne visited dairy exporters Coombe Castle in Melksham today.

Showing there is more to the Chancellor of the Exchequer than trying to tackle the government's deficit, he donned overalls and got hands-on sticking labels and packing batches of bottled cream ready to be shipped.

He also greeted the factory's employees and was taken for a tour by production manager Mike Oleszynski, where Mr Osborne had an insight into how the dairy exporter works, which he praised for being a 'massive success story for Wiltshire and the South West' as it exports 90 per cent of its produce around the world.

He added: "It's great British food produce being sold to China, into North America, onto the continents of Europe and if you want to have a successful economy going forward in Britain, you need more companies like this."

Mr Osborne's visit to the cheese, butter and cream manufacturer is one of a string of visits by Conservative big guns to the Chippenham constituency seat, seen as among of its top most winnable targets in the country as its candidate Michelle Donelan looks to wrestle it from Lib Dem Duncan Hames.

Speaking about how the Conservatives can help the company, which is one of many in the EU facing a ban from exporting dairy goods to Russia, he said pressure on Ukraine should be maintained.

He added: "I think the answer to help businesses affected by that particular ban, is to make sure they expand and grow in other markets.

"Despite the impact of the problems in Russia this company, Coombe Castle were telling me they are growing 10 per cent per year and that's fantastic news."

Mr Osborne said the Conservatives are committed to creating more jobs and that unemployment is down by half in the Chippenham constituency.

He also could not resist taking a swipe at Labour leader Ed Miliband. He said: "Does anyone believe that Wiltshire and the South West will get a look-in if there is an Ed Miliband and Scottish nationalist government?"

Michelle Donelan Conservative candidate for the constituency added: "It is one of the 23 we need to win to win that majority and the reality is if we don't win it, we are going to end up with Ed Miliband which is unthinkable for the economy, for jobs, for local people and their family's income."
