FORMER Town striker Nile Ranger would love to return to Swindon and still has a lot of respect for the club.

Ranger was giving a frank interview to YouTube channel Straight No Chaser and revealed plenty of interesting details about his much-scrutinised football career.

He discusses his time at Swindon and reveals the gratitude he has for the club because of the faith they showed in him when no other club would touch him.

He admitted to making mistakes in his career, including the incident that ultimately saw his contract cancelled with Town.

He described the moment where he struck a woman in the face as “disgusting”, though he added it was a game he played with his friend and he barely remembers the night because he was drunk.

Having endured a tumultuous season at Blackpool, where he has not featured since going AWOL in December, Ranger is aiming to get back into football next season. He admits a return to Wiltshire would interest him, but holds no hopes of a return to the County Ground.

“I would definitely go back (to Swindon), but I don’t think that opportunity is going to happen to be honest,” he said.

“Swindon took a chance on me while I still had the case. They backed me all the way through to be honest, that’s why I respect Swindon.”

One of the more insightful moments in the interview was Ranger’s admission he had fallen out of love with the game. However, the striker believes it would just take the right opportunity for him to get it back.

“I’ve lost my hunger for (football), but I want it. I just need a chance, a proper good chance, a platform,” he explained.

“They’ll be plenty of opportunities, people think it’s run out now, but I believe in my ability.

“I don’t know yet (what’s next in terms of football). I’m going to get back into it for sure.

“There’s bags of teams (I would like to play for), but there’s a difference between what I want and what’s realistic.

“Obviously you want to play for the top teams, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, but that’s not how it goes all the time.”

Ranger revealed he nearly joined Town before signing for Newcastle United, but abruptly cut short his trial after Dennis Wise persuaded him to head to the North East.

“I went to Swindon and I played a few games (in) pre-season. As soon as pre-season started I was training with the first team and I had just turned 17. It wasn’t paid just yet, it was a trial,” he added.

“I done well in the trial so they gave me a chance. They didn’t offer the best money but because I was young I was going to take it.

"I think it was £200 a week, but I didn’t mind (the money), because I wanted a club and I heard a few players come from there and went on to bigger things.

“I played a reserve game and went to Burger King after the game, I’d scored, and my agent said to me ‘listen Newcastle want you now, Dennis Wise has been on the phone’.

“(My agent) was like ‘you’re definitely going to Newcastle’. I got a phone call from Dennis Wise and he was like ‘you’d be mad not to come down here’.

“The way I left Swindon was like I packed my things, because we had to wash our own kit and stuff and I just left it there and I didn’t say nothing.

“That was just what my agent told me to do, put your kit (down) and just leave, don’t say nothing and just tell your close friends.”
