THE SWINDON Advertiser is backing the Town fans to bring the noise at Bramall Lane on Thursday and dipped into their pocket to show their support.

Jay Collett is something of Town fan activist. Earlier in the season he raised a ‘wall of colour’ at Port Vale and has embarked on a number of social media campaigns to build an atmosphere at the County Ground. He has now turned his attention to the play-off bid.

Collett, 23, caught the Town bug a few years ago and his first game was actually the play-off final defeat against Millwall. Despite that disappointment Collett came back and got himself a season ticket.

With Town’s success this season Collett thought it would be an ideal time to try and create some atmosphere amongst the notoriously quiet Town fans.

Targeting away fans, who have a good reputation for their passion, he led the successful display at Vale Park. A number of the players tweeted their appreciation for his efforts afterwards.

Now with the crunch trip to Bramall Lane days away, Collett is plotting another grand show to get behind the team against the Blades.

With the help of a £200 donation from the Swindon Advertiser, Collett has raised nearly £400 and bought 500 red and white streamers to be thrown when the players emerge for kick-off.

“What I learned at Port Vale was that these things do get the crowd a bit more up for it,” said Collett.

“People were saying after that day it was on the best away days they’ve been on and the sound ratio to the amount of people there was one of the best they had heard.

“I don’t know if that was down to what we organised, but I’d like to think it helps.”

Collett is envisaging a torrent of streamers from the 2,500 travelling fans in the away end at Bramall Lane so the players can see it as they prepare for kick-off.

Collett is going to be organising a timed release for maximum impact and is hoping the watching TV cameras pick it up.

“I’m turning up with a bag of streamers and I’ve got three guys from Twitter who have said they’ll help me out, so we’ll distribute them around the stand.

“I’ve emailed someone at Sky and at the Football League and neither have got back to me yet. That’s my job this week to make sure they get it on TV.”

For anyone else who wants to get involved Collett has also organised with the company who supplied the streamers the sale of special ‘Swindon Fan Packs’, which you can order today and receive in time for the game.
