SWINDON Town hero Paul Bodin has been appointed as assistant manager/first team coach at League One Port Vale.

Former Wales international Bodin, who was also a youth team coach at the County Ground, will work under Rob Page at Vale, who finished 18th in League One this season.

Bodin enjoyed a 20-year career in the Football League, including spells at Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Cardiff City and made nearly 300 appearances for Swindon Town, scoring 40 goals, including the penalty that took Town into the Premier League in 1993.

The 50-year-old has worked in the Welsh national set-up under Chris Coleman and has also coached in Southampton’s Academy.

Page told Vale's website: “I’m delighted to welcome Paul to Port Vale Football Club.

“He’s someone I know very well and I believe he will make a really positive impact here.”
