BRADFORD on Avon Swimming Club returned with 32 medals when a 23-strong team travelled to a gala at Southwold.

Topping the medal table and dominating the 11-year-old boys’ category was Lawrence Martindale, who won in every race he competed in, walking away with eight golds in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 200m IM.

Brother and sister Izzy and Tommy Criddle collected six medals between them. Nine-year-old Tommy won gold in the 50m free and breast and 100m IM and 50m breast, while Izzy, aged 12, won the 100m back and free and added silver in the 50m back.

Bradford coach Rebecca Smith collected four golds herself, beating her nearest rival by 10 seconds in the 200m free and triumphing over 50m and 100m as well as in the 200m IM.

Bailey Clifford-Pryor, 12, amassed six medals, silver in the 50m breast and 200m IM and bronze in the 100m breast, 200m back, 50m fly and 100m free.

Jack Everett, 11, won 200m back and free silver as well as bronze in the 50m back. Ten-year old Rowena State also had a strong medal haul, including golds in both the 50m back and free. She added silver in the 100m free and bronze in the 100m IM.

A Bradford team also competed for Aqua Sulis at Plymouth Leander – a Level One meet with tough qualifying times.

Stella Cookson, 14, came away with two breaststroke golds over 100m and 200m, while Jessie Foster won four medals in the open age group. She won gold in the 200m IM and 100m breast, silver in the 400m IM and bronze in the 50m breast. Michael Dorsman, Racheal Wilson and Izzy McNab qualified for finals.
