Lee Mapstone, of Penhill, has been given a six-week jail sentence, suspended for 15 months, for stealing a number of items from Co-op.

The 33-year-old, of Wilton Walk, pleaded guilty to stealing around £200 worth of meat and cheese from the shop on June 21. He also pleaded guilty to taking between 10 and 15 bottles of shampoo over a two week period in June from the Cheney Manor Road store.

He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to Co-op as well as court costs of £180 and pay the Crown Prosecution Service £85.

A victim surcharge of £85 was added, bringing the total he must pay to £545. Mapstone has also been ordered to attend rehabilitation over the next 12 months.

A 20-year-old man has been ordered to pay £350 after admitting dumping waste without an appropriate permit.

Liam Betterton, of Frobisher Drive, Walcot, was found tipping rubbish on land just behind Tydeman Street in November last year.

He pleaded guilty at Swindon Magistrates' Court on July 20 to the offence of depositing controlled waste without a licence under the environmental protection act.

Betterton was fined £180 pounds for the offence and also ordered to pay costs of £150. A victim surcharge of £20 was also added to the total.

A man has ordered to pay £220 for stealing two bottles of vodka from Tesco in the town centre.

Andrew Macdonald, 26, of Ogbourne Close, Penhill, pleaded guilty to the theft at Swindon Magistrates' Court on July 14.

The combined value of both of the bottles was £38, which were taken on May 10.

Macdonald also pleaded guilty to failing to appear in court having being released on bail when he was charged for the offence.

He was fined £50 for the theft and then court costs of £150 as well as a victim surcharge of £20.
