NEIGHBOURS on Ramsbury Walk in Trowbridge were baffled by a letter stating their road will be closed for a number of weeks from today.
Residents claim the note, which arrived less than a week before work is due to start, was the first they had heard of the works and the letter came with no address or heading.
A day later, two notices appeared on the pavement saying the road would be closed for four weeks during August with a contact number for Bridgwater-based company Harris and Harris Construction Limited.
Wiltshire Council confirmed they granted a section 50 licence to Harris and Harris Construction Limited to install apparatus in a highway.
Residents are unhappy at the lack of notice they have been given by the construction company and the disruption it is likely to cause.
Kevin Kilcoyne, of Ramsbury Walk, said: “This is hugely inconvenient and we would normally expect proper notification over a good period of time to allow us to prepare. I believe that there is a legal requirement here.
“We would not expect the road to be completely closed but would expect any contractor to make arrangements to allow us access around their work.”
