MALMESBURY Victoria began the defence of their Wiltshire League crown in impressive style.

Alan Griffin’s Vics side notched 12 goals in their opening two games, nine coming in their curtain-raiser against Andover New Street Swifts.

The final score at the Flying Monk Ground on Saturday was an emphatic 9-1 romp, which they followed up with a 3-2 success over Chippenham Park development on Tuesday night.

You might imagine they would be streets ahead in the Wiltshire League’s goal difference standings, but Trowbridge Town opened their campaign with a 7-1 victory over Wroughton and went on to secure a 3-0 win on Tuesday night.

Melksham Town Reserves were equally goal-happy. Seven goals without reply against Vale of Pewsey in their opener preceded a more modest 1-0 win at Devizes Town reserves three days later.

Pewsey responded with a 2-0 win over Sarum Youth in their next fixture.

Wroughton also bounced back from their opening day defeat to record a 3-2 win over Royal Wootton Bassett Reserves. Bassett did at least start the season on a positive note, earning a 2-2 draw at Ludgershall Sports.

Before their Tuesday night loss at Malmesbury, Chippenham Park Development started their campaign in promising fashion with a 5-0 win over Sarum Youth.

Wilts Calne Town kicked-off their season with a 1-1 draw at home to Devizes Town Reserves. but fell to a 2-1 defeat in their next fixture against Corsham Town Reserves.
