CAMPAIGNERS fighting against a transatlantic trade deal took to the streets of Chippenham to join a nationwide awareness movement.

The group were on the Chippenham Bridge last Saturday to raise awareness of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), a free trade agreement between the EU and the USA.

Supporters claim that the secretive agreement, which was leaked in 2014, would result in huge economic growth while critics argue it will massively increase corporate power and undermine democracy.

Organised by independent campaign group, 38 Degrees, the day of action was part of a nationwide campaign against the agreement.

Campaigners were aiming to speak to hundreds of people about the dangers of the deal and how it might affect their lives if it goes ahead.

A UK petition against TTIP will be delivered to MPs across the UK in October while an EU-wide petition against the trade deal is close to 2.5 million signatures.
