THE man who died after being hit by a train near Great Bedwyn has been named as Charlie Harriet.
The 49-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene when officers arrived just after 7.30am on Saturday, August 15. Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Locals have described him as a lovely person and he is thought to have lived in a converted van with his dog near to The Wharf. He was also a regular at The Three Tuns and The Cross Keys pub in the village.
Cross Keys landlord Alex Williams said: “From what I know of him, he was a nice kind, caring bloke and loved his dog. He was very happy and cheerful and just a regular nice guy.”
An inquest into his death was opened on Thursday at Salisbury Coroner’s Court by assistant coroner Ian Singleton and has been adjourned pending further enquires.
