ON-LOAN midfielder Kevin Stewart is a major doubt for Swindon Town’s trip to Crewe on Saturday.
The news is a further blow for manager Mark Cooper, who is already facing a selection headache because of injuries and international call-ups.
The 21-year-old limped off in the closing stages of Town’s penalty shoot-out triumph away at Newport County in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday.
Stewart has since returned to his parent club, Premier League side Liverpool, to assess the problem, with BBC Wiltshire reporting that he may have suffered medial ligament damage.
Should that prove to be the case, Stewart will definitely miss Town’s clash at Gresty Road this weekend and he could be on the sidelines for several weeks.
Stewart has featured in all seven of Town’s games so far this term, having been deployed in a variety of positions. The former Tottenham youngster started the season as part a three-man midfield and on Saturday, switched to right-back for the 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United.
The Town squad is already down to the bare bones this weekend, with strike duo Jonathan Obika and Jermaine Hylton laid up with ankle and shoulder injuries, while it is thought that it is still too early for skipper Nathan Thompson to return from a groin problem.
Yaser Kasim, Jordan Williams and Jordan Stewart will all also miss the match against Crewe as they are away on international duty.
