A VIDEO games developer has rolled down the sails on its latest creation, which reunited brothers James and Mark Carroll with a favourite childhood board game.

The Park South siblings have released details of Man O’ War: Corsair, the naval combat and exploration video game their company Evil Twin Artworks has been developing.

The computer game is based on Games Workshop’s fantasy board game Man O’ War, which was a household favourite for the Carrolls in their younger years.

“You wish you could go back to being 12 or 13 and say you are going to make a game out of this and work with Games Workshop on this,” said James.

“Even a couple of years ago I wouldn’t have imagined us to be in a position with such a big company on this scale and working together.

“I still have to pinch myself. It’s a very exciting time.”

Games Workshop is a miniature wargame manufacturer with outlets across the world and responsibility for the Warhammer fantasy game series.

The Carrolls approached the firm in September 2014 off the back of their award-winning success with Victory at Sea and pitched their idea for a remake of Man O’ War.

Senior employees at Games Workshop said they had enjoyed playing Victory at Sea and were keen to work with Evil Twin on its ideas.

The board game giant’s stock is so high it is also working with Sega on a separate release due out at the end of this year.

“We have definitely had very few nights’ sleep. We are still quite a small team and we are punching well above our weight with what we have done so far,” said James.

“We have our own games and they have theirs, but to know Sega is making a game from the same franchise is really exciting for us.”

James said Evil Twin has moved away from the strategy of Victory at Sea and has created a far more detailed, adventure experience for gamers, akin to the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Man O’ War is slated for a release in early 2016 for download, but there is expected to be physical roll-out in a boxed edition later.

As Evil Twin moves from success to success, the young company faces the prospect of expansion and trying to find a new office for the growing team of talented developers.

James and Mark currently work out of their mother’s home in Park South with their team around them.

“We would like to get Man O’ War ready to a certain degree with no disruption, but it is something which has been on our mind for a while,” he said.

“We have got different options. We have got to be somewhere that inspires us rather than something which might be big enough, but is a little grey and horrible.

“We want a nice location where you can go out and about at least.

“We want to stick with Swindon. We have always been about supporting Swindon and encouraging the industry locally.

“It’s a good spot for us between Bristol and London.”
