EXCITEMENT is building for members in the Chippenham-based Allsorts Community Choir as they prepare to perform at the newly refurbished Neeld Community and Arts Centre.

The choir, who have previously performed at the Southbank Centre in London, are singing days before the official opening alongside classical guitar quartet Vida.

The concert, on October 5, will raise money for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice who recently announced they’ll be building a new hospice in Devizes.

Choir director, Sara Taylor, said: “There’s quite a buzz around the choir. This is our biggest thing so far because it’s a concert in our own right.

“It will be great; it’s about time to be honest, I think this venue has been needed for quite some time. Every town this size should have a decent venue for performances.”

Allsorts Community Choir formed in 2012 and has around 50 members who practice once a week at the Sheldon Road Methodist Church.

Singer Roger Smith said: “I’m very excited. One of the reasons Vida are doing the concert, they like to do a warm up before their US tour.”

The official ‘soft’ opening of the Neeld Community and Arts Centre will take place on October 9 with Great British Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc.

Tickets for the Allsorts Choir Event, which starts at 7.30pm, are available from music shop Noteworthy on Station Hill at £6 for adults and £4 for children.
