Songs written by Swindon band Belarus have been chosen to appear on the sound track of a new feature film, released this year.

Drummer of Belarus, Rich Millin, who now lives in Germany, said: "Urban Hymn, directed by Michael Caton-Jones, features many Belarus tunes, both original versions and re-worked recordings.''

Belarus originally signed a four album deal with Emap Media/Precious Iota Records. The first single sold over 1000 copies in the first week and reached no.32 in the UK indie charts.

Belarus played support gigs for The Feeling, The Young Knives, Cosmic Rough Riders, Morning Runner, Tina Dico, Brakes, The Kooks, The Futureheads. They also played a live slot on BBC 6 Music Gideon Coe show and were a featured artist on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6.

Now Rich has his own Berlin Rock School, as well as being in demand as a session musician.

The former director on the board of the Swindon Music Co-Operative has had an eventful year, with support from BBC Introducing for a number of his recordings including Mr Dog The Bear and The Incredible Disappearing Boy.

He has co-written an album with German pop singer Charlotte Giers, worked with Arttraktiv Berlin, to help advise and build a new recording studio and recorded on Flemming Borby's album, Somebody Wrong, earlier this year.

Rich said: "The record is now out to buy. We also played a couple of shows to release the video and the single, also called Somebody Wrong. here in Berlin.''

Urban Hymn is a film set against the backdrop of the North London riots of 2011 in director Michael Caton-Jones’ gritty and moving portrait of a pair of disenfranchised teenage girls struggling to survive.
