A WOMAN who died following a flat fire in Angel Yard, Marlborough, has been formally identified as Victoria MacDonald.

Despite the best efforts of Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Miss MacDonald, 33, of Angel Yard, Marlborough, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1pm on Monday by South Western Ambulance Service.

A file is now being prepared for the coroner.

Miss MacDonald had worked as a waitress at Bollywood in the town and as a volunteer at the Oxfam Books & Music Shop in the High Street.

Deputy manager of the charity shop Dennis Porter Avis, 33, of Cherry Orchard has paid tribute to her.

He said: “She was such a kind, nice girl and really quietly spoken.

"I knew her quite well when she worked here, so it really was quite a shock.

“She left about two months ago and she was not here long, about a couple of months. She read a lot of books and was brilliant with the customers.

"She was so down to earth and I am usually quite shy but she was just someone who you could talk to without being afraid.

“The last time I saw her was a couple of weeks ago at the bus stop. I was talking to her and she said she had been looking for a job. I asked why she left here and she said it was because she did not think she was good at the job. It is such a tragedy.”
