THE LEAGUE Managers Association have promised to offer new Swindon Town boss Martin Ling any support he should need.

The 49-year-old takes charge at the County Ground on Tuesday following the sacking of Mark Cooper last month.

However, not only is this the former Town midfielder’s first managerial role in two-and-a-half years, it is also his first in the hotseat since overcoming depression.

Ling, when taking charge at Swindon, has said that he is ‘A-one’ now and ready to get on with the job at hand.

And the LMA have told the Advertiser that they are pleased that the former Leyton Orient and Torquay United boss back in football following his illness.

“In Martin Ling, Swindon Town have appointed a vastly experienced manager, who understands what it takes to be successful in the Football League,” they said in a statement to the Advertiser.

“Martin’s passion for the game is what has driven him to overcome his battle with depression and return to management in good health, with the enthusiasm to lead his new club forward.

“Since leaving Torquay in 2013, he has gone on to graduate with the LMA Diploma in Football Management, developing himself as a manager and as a person.

“The LMA are excited to see Martin flourish in his new role and will continue to support him in the same manner as we support all football managers who face enormous pressure and challenges on a daily basis.”
