SHERSTON’S annual pancake race took place on Tuesday (Feb 9) as dozens of local residents took to The Rattlebone Inn to scoff their faces.

The competition was organised in heats and contestants had to eat four freshly-cooked pancakes each in the fastest possible time to progress to the next round.

Richard Langley, organiser of the race, said: “It was a really great event, as it is every year.

“There was a good turnout and quite a few kids took part which was nice to see.”

The event was the tenth consecutive year it has run and as always, the winners had the privilege of having their names engraved on a commemorative frying pan.

Champion for the children’s competition was Cormac Pritchett (11), closely followed by Will Hulme (14) and Jack Gibb (10), who tied in second.

Laura Ferrier was the winner of the ladies’ competition, with second and third places going to Kati Moriarty and Minnie Hulme respectively.

There was an international feel in the men’s competition with competitors from Argentina and Italy taking part. The winner was Nicky Wilkins, followed closely by Tom Langley and Adie Roberts.

The Sherston 1016 group, organisers of the event, would like to thank local businesses Sherston Free-Range Eggs, Shipton Mill and Tucks Farm Shop for their donation of ingredients, and the team at the Rattlebone for all their help.
