SUPER fit students are getting ready to test their determination when they take part in a series of challenges set by teacher Lisa Adams.

Mrs Adams, who is assistant head at Lavington School, near Devizes, is leading by example by taking part in an ironman contest.

She has persuaded a group of pupils to join her at the Staffordshire 70.3 event on June 12. It consists of a 1.2-mile swim in Chasewater reservoir then a 56-mile bike across Cannock Chase and finally a 13.1-mile run which will start and finish at the historic Shugborough country estate.

She is also joining 26 students and staff on a 250 mile cycle challenge from July 25 to July 27 in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Dorset.

Mrs Adams, who last year joined 38 pupils on a cycle ride from the School to the Eiffel Tower in Paris to raise money for Bag4Sport Foundation, is being backed for the new challenge by a group of ex-students, staff and parents.

She said: "I am being very brave by taking on a new challenge with the students. We will be doing a 250 mile cycle challenge through the New Forest, around the Isle of Wight and back up through Dorset.

"To enable me to do this I have recruited a committee from parents, ex-students and staff, it is just another great example of the school working with the community. It also gives us the opportunity to organise a ride which is enjoyable, challenging and memorable."

On the first day the group will cycle 88 miles to the New Forest, on day two tackles 60 miles on the Isle of Wight and on the third day 102 miles from Dorset.

Last year the team tapped into community spirit by getting support from Devizes Area Board and Lavington Athletics Club.
