A FUNDRAISING triathlon in memory of a young boy from Marlborough who died of a brain tumour has raised over £4,000.

Harriet Cox, 42, of Bath Road and her husband Paul, 52, have organised two major events in the last two years in remembrance of their son Bobby who died of a brain tumour at the age of five-years-old in July 2014.

Mrs Cox, who is the head of a house and biology teacher at Marlborough College, said: “My daughter Phoebe as well as 40 other kids who are friends of hers and Bobby’s took part in the triathlon, starting with a 50 metre swim and then a run and a cycle. It was lovely, currently we have raised over £4,000.”

Since the death of their son Mr and Mrs Cox have raised £77,000 from the separate events which has been split between two charities.

“Bobby died on July 2 2014 and was diagnosed not long before so we wanted to do something. Last year we did a 100km bike ride and raised £68,000 which we donated to John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital and the Brain Tumour Charity.

“The money that has gone towards a new playroom at the hospital as well as a machine that checks pressure in the brain. Bobby died after fluid caused pressure on his brain which caused him to have a seizure,” added Mrs Cox.

Due to the success of this year’s fundraising event Mrs Cox has already thought of what she can arrange for next year.

“We are thinking of doing an adults triathlon after the success of the children’s one. We are going to alternate each year between doing an adults and kids one,” she said.
