NEW Highworth Town boss Jeff Roberts has already begun to mould his squad in his own vision after securing the services of five new players.

Roberts, who took over from John Fisher at the end of last season, has headed back to his former club Corsham Town to sign 19-year-old Harry Myles, who was at New College the year before.

Roberts has also plundered the Toolstation League to add Steve Allison from Calne Town, Luke Hall-Cousins from Cadbury Heath, who also spent time with Corsham last term, and Fabien McCarthy from Bitton.

Jordan Roberts has also linked up with his dad from Chippenham Town as he bids to regain his match fitness, having missed last season with a knee injury, before a potential return to Hardenhuish Park.

“We have spoken to a few players now and I am hoping by the end of next week, we will double that figure,” said Jeff Roberts.

“We looked at the last 10 games for Highworth and I know there wasn’t really anything to play for but most of them needed a shake-up a little bit.

“We’ve looked at some quality players to go alongside players who work hard off the ball to try and create a good blend.

“Two seasons ago, Highworth made it to the semi-final of the FA Vase, so they have got the quality there but I think over the last year, it has gone a little bit stale.

“We need to take our time to get a settled side together and one that can compete so that we are looking at finishing around mid-table next season.”

The extra additions could see players from Fisher’s squad depart The Elms, with many players being linked with moves across town to Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

“I have heard rumours,” added Roberts, who is hoping to secure a pre-season friendly against a Swindon Town select XI, as well as games with Corsham, Andover Town, Wantage Town and Shepton Mallet.

“I have text them all wanting them to come to pre-season training to have a look.

“We asked to meet up with the whole squad and I think about five players turned up.

“They know we are going to bring a few players in but we just want players there who really want to play for the club and work hard.

“If certain players don’t want to do that, they are free to do what they want to do.

“It is not as if they have all been kicked out of the door and we are restarting – that’s not the case.

“There are certain players we want to keep that will benefit the team.”
