THE TransWilts Community Rail Partnership has been nominated not once, not twice, but six times for the Association of Community Rail Partnerships Community Rail Awards.

TransWilts, which looks after the Westbury to Swindon via Trowbridge, Melksham and Chippenham area, has been shortlisted as part of the awards show which

recognises the role community rail plays in maintaining and improving the railway network.

In the most enhanced station category, Melksham's station was one of the five nominees.

They are one of the many partners in the Great Western Railway network, which was shortlisted in 13 out of the 14 categories, with a total of 23 entries shortlisted.

GWR Managing Director Mark Hopwood said: “Throughout the GWR network community rail groups play a leading role, adding value to projects designed to improve services and make stations safer, friendlier and greener.

"I am delighted all of our community rail partnerships have been shortlisted and are in contention to win an ACoRP Award."

Other GWR nominees include the Devon and Cornwall Community Rail Partnership, the Severnside Community Rail Partnership, the Heart of Wessex Community Rail Partnership and Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership.

The finals take place at the Southport Conference Centre on September 29.
