A DRIVER has been jailed after he was caught drink driving for the second time while on a suspended sentence for a bladed article offence.

Balwinder Dhillon, of Hatch Road, Stratton St Margaret, pleaded guilty to the offence dating from July 23 when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

The court heard he had driven an 11-plate grey Mazda 6 on Gypsy Lane when he had 71mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit when driving is 35mcg.

This put him in breach of a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, which had been imposed on July 22, 2015, for threatening someone with a knife.

The court heard that this was Dhillon's second conviction for drink-driving and magistrates banned him from the roads for three years.

They also imposed a four-week sentence, and activated part of his suspended sentence meaning he will serve a total of 16 weeks behind bars.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £115.
