CHIPPENHAM’S Grittleton House estate has been put up for sale for £5 million only months after the prep school there was closed.
The estate is currently for sale on Rightmove including both the house and former stables which are Grade II listed, and is described as having 20 bedrooms and 38 acres of land.
The private school, which had opened up 65 years ago at the house, was closed in July this year because the numbers of pupils had continued to decrease, according to a statement which was released by proprietors of the school and house, Adrian, Julian and Matthew Shipp, at the time.
At the end of July it was claimed by a former teacher at the school that staff would have to wait months to receive thousands of pounds worth of salary that they were owed.
Grittleton House is currently used as a venue for weddings and occasionally filming.
When seeking a comment from Grittleton House a member of staff said that no planned weddings would be affected at the venue and that the sale of the house was a ‘change in direction’.
