FIREFIGHTERS raced to the scene of a fire at the Honda plant in Stratton on Saturday evening.

The incident began shortly after 4.30pm and continued for almost five hours.

A number of crews responded from across Swindon, three pump appliances and one aerial unit were involved.

They withdrew from the site at 9.17pm.

The fire was located in a large external generator towards the rear of the site but no cause has yet been established.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the blaze.

One Honda employee said that this was not the first fire to have occured at the plant this year although no further information is known about that first incident.

Others said that due to the location of the fire, work continued as normal in other parts of the site.
