SAINSBURY’S in Chippenham have once again come onboard and are acting as a drop-off point for this year’s Salvation Army Toy Appeal.

The store, on Bath Road, are taking part in the appeal after previously doing so two years ago and have already collected 60 toys.

Val Atwill, store manager, said: “Sainsbury's is committed to supporting its local community and this has been a great way to help local families this Christmas.”

Launched on November 17 in conjunction with the Gazette and Herald, the toy appeal deadline has been extended until December 16 with a plea for more toys to be donated catered for teenagers.

Margaret Boyd, from the Salvation Army in Chippenham, said: “The toy appeal is really picking up, we’ve had many donations from the public and been really impressed.

“We’re very pleased to have received generous donations from St Michael’s Church and Station Hill Baptist Church and B&Q.

“Each child will receive a big toy, small toys colour booking and stocking fillers.”

The annual appeal supported 218 underprivileged families provide toys for their children in 2015, and toys from this year’s appeal will be sent to families in and around Chippenham.

New gifts, not second-hand ones and unwrapped, can be dropped off at the designated areas and then the Salvation Army will distribute them to families who would otherwise struggle to give their children toys.

Other drop-off points include Wilko in High Street, Goodman Warren Beck on Market Place, and Tesco in Emery Gate Shopping Centre.

There are also drop-off points in Devizes including Wilko in the High Street and solicitors Awdry Bailey and Douglas, in St John’s Street.
