CHILDREN in Melksham will soon be able to find a haven for their favourite stories and characters when a new children’s book shop opens at the Komix store.

The new shop, which will be an expansion of the independently-owned Komix shop in Church Street, is set to open its doors on March 4, much to the excitement of owner Hayley Spencer and her staff.

Miss Spencer, 31, of Blackmore Road, said: “The response we have had from the public is phenomenal. It is something that has been on the back burner for quite some time. We have always wanted to expand the range of stock we have in the shop. It can be hard with comics as they are a bit of a niche market and with Brexit it has become more expensive and difficult to import comics to the shop. I love comics but it is great to be adding this to our stock.

“We have the grand opening at the beginning of March but with the way it is all going we could possibly start within the next couple of weeks. I am just waiting to put a couple of shelves up now.”

To celebrate the start of her new business venture, Miss Spencer and her team will be throwing a grand opening celebration with an appearance by a special visitor.

“We have got a special guest coming along to the opening. Jess Bradley from Bristol is an illustrator for children’s books and she will be coming with her husband and child so it will be a very family friendly event. She will be there to sign books and meet people who come to the opening. Our opening day also falls during World Book Week,” added Miss Spencer.

With the addition of the children’s bookshop at Komix, Melksham will now have another shop where they can pick up some of their favourite stories.

“Melksham hasn’t had a bookshop since Dickins closed down ten years ago and I think it is exactly what Melksham needs. It means families can stay in Melksham and bring their children and explore new worlds. Don’t get me wrong, I love Waterstones, I visit the Trowbridge one a lot but it is great to have something like this in the town. It is very exciting for me and my family,” Miss Spencer said.

The opening ceremony for the expansion of Komix will be taking place on March 4 at the premises in Church Street.
