PARENTS of a teenage boy who was attacked in Devizes as he walked home from school have made an official complaint to Wiltshire Police about the way the case has been investigated.

Three months after the 16-year-old was left with a broken nose after being attacked from behind by two boys wearing hoods and with their faces covered his parents say little has been done to find the culprits.

The boy is now afraid to go out and has become reclusive in his own home. His mum said: "He is going to school and goes to a couple of organised activities but other than that he does not want to go out and is still very distressed about what happened."

His parents have written to Wiltshire Police to complain. The letter says: "We are extremely disappointed in the police handling of the case both at organisational level and the standard of service provided by the investigating officer.

"We feel that some line of enquiry opportunities have not been actioned and we have not been told why. We accept that the culprits may never be caught but we don’t feel that we have received the high level of service, that Wiltshire Police say, on their website, they are committed to."

At the time of the attack, which happened at about 4.15pm on December 7, in Hartmoor Road police were told by the victim's sister that one of the assailants was wearing shorts and red sports socks.

His parents believe the socks could be a significant clue as they could be part of a school or club kit.

In the letter the parents say they believe their son was a victim of a premeditated planned attack with deliberate intent to cause physical injury and harm.

They wrote: "He was pushed to the ground from behind and kicked in the head, knocked out and had his nose broken, by two boys who had their heads and faces covered, as he was walking home after getting off the bus from school."

They think the attack could have been related to a social media picture incident involving their son but not enough had been done to follow this up with school children.

The parents have now asked police to review their procedures and have called on them to allocate an investigating officer, continue the investigation, acknowledge their concerns and provide regular updates about any decisions made and why.

They would also like to renew their appeal for anyone who saw two boys running away down Broadleas Road or in Hillworth Park to contact police.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "Wiltshire Police can confirm that a complaint in relation to the way this incident has been investigated has been received by our Professional Standards Department. An investigation is currently being carried out. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
